MONROE - The Monroe community blood drive will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the United Methodist Church, 2227 4th St., Monroe. All blood types are needed. Special guests will be Join the Be the Match Marrow Registry to register to be a marrow donor.

The need for blood is constant, making it important for eligible individuals to donate regularly. Many potential donors think that if they have high blood pressure or diabetes that they can't give blood. In many cases people are still considered healthy and able to donate. Bring a list of your medications and the staff can determine if you are eligible. Eligibility guidelines change periodically, so check to see if a restriction that prevented you from donating in the past has changed.

A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Eligible donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 years old with a signed Red Cross consent form, must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health.
