MONROE - A Theatre Games Theatre Workshop for children age 9 and up is planned for 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 16, in the second floor program room at the Monroe Public Library. Johanna Gorman-Baer will lead the theatre games workshops. What are "theatre games" anyway?
This is not a traditional performance setting: the goal is to have fun. Theatre games are often used as exercises that actors use as warm-ups and to generate ideas for creating performances; however, in workshops those games are specifically chosen to emphasize the creative/fun aspect, and not the actor/outcome aspect of the exercises. In workshops, we play games designed to encourage creativity and to dissolve self-consciousness. Participants are encouraged to work with the group and improvise. These games involve the following: standing, sitting, jumping, thinking, not-thinking, waving arms, shaking legs, shouting, whispering, and above all - laughing. Children age 9 and up with any and every level of experience and ability is welcome.
