Cemetery walk is Saturday

ALBANY - As part of the Gap Church Bash to be held Saturday, the directors of Gap Church Museum Inc. will host a cemetery walk at 11 a.m. at the Gap Church Cemetery.

In commemoration of this year's 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, the walk will feature Civil War veterans buried in the Gap cemetery.

Buried at the Gap are many locals who served in the Civil War, as well as veterans from the War of 1812, World Wars I and II and Korea. The church was built and the cemetery laid out in 1856, just a few years before the start of the Civil War. During the course of the war from 1861 to 1865, about 2,500 Green County men served in the Federal army at a time when the county's population was just less than 20,000. The lives of some of our local soldiers who served their country will be remembered at the walk.

The event will be held rain or shine, and there is no cost to attend. Free-will donations will be accepted for cemetery and church maintenance and preservation. The Gap Church and Cemetery are located at W2401 Wisconsin 59. For more information, contact Jane Copus at 608-214-8289 or jcopus1@frontier.com.

The Gap Church Bash will be held at the church from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and includes a vendor/craft show, concessions and a scavenger hunt.
