MARTINTOWN - Martintown Community Church is celebrating 20 years of ministry with Pastor Kevin and Cindy Cernek with a celebration dinner at noon Sunday, Sept. 8 at Gnarly Oak Restaurant, 15750 Old County Q road, Blanchardville. The people of Martintown are giving the couple a trip to the Holy Land at a date of their choosing.

Kevin Cernek began at Martintown on the first Sunday of July 1993, with about 30 regular attendees. Under his leadership, the church grew to about five times that number attending each Sunday. In order to accommodate the growth, in 2001, two morning worship services were offered - one at 8 a.m. and a second service at 10 a.m., with Sunday School for all ages beginning at 9 a.m. each week.

Under Cernek's leadership, a Worship Team was formed, consisting of seven to nine musicians. Each Thursday evening, and again on Sunday morning, they lead the congregation in music that praises and glorifies God.

Cernek received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arizona College of the Bible with a dual major in Bible and Pastoral Studies, graduating with academic honors, cum laude. He served his pastoral internship at Desert Hills Evangelical Free Church, Phoenix, Ariz. Prior to coming to Martintown, he served as interim pastor at Hilltop Community Church, Bagdad, Ariz., and at Peace Church, Browntown, along with various pulpit appearances at churches in Arizona, Illinois and Wisconsin.

The Cerneks were married in Martintown Community Church on Feb. 14, 1982.
