MONROE - More than 100 people came out on Oct. 11 to run or walk for awareness of pancreatic cancer. Friends, family and survivors were in attendance for the first Walk For Awareness event.

The event started at the Monroe High School with participants walking to Recreation Park and back to the high school for food, water and camaraderie.

Pancreatic Cancer Community Ambassador and event coordinator JoAnn Hawthorn came up with the idea to raise awareness.
