The Childcare Center features six different classrooms. Each classroom includes a different color accent wall and a different size of paintable wall space for the artist. The specifics for each room are below.
The new Childcare Center at the Green County Family YMCA is seeking six local artists to create vibrant, engaging murals for the six classrooms in the new facility.
This project aims to enhance the space for the children, families and staff by incorporating playful, educational, and inspiring imagery that reflects our core values of creativity, diversity, and community.

Wall Painting? What to know ...
■ Submission Deadline: Friday, April 25, 2025
■ Location: Green County Family YMCA, 1307 2nd Street, Monroe, WI 53566
■ Project Budget: This is a volunteer opportunity with expenses reimbursed up to $1,500.
Mural Theme & Style
The design should be:
● Child-friendly: Bright, fun, and suitable for young children (ages 6 weeks through 4 years old).
● Educational & Inspirational: Can incorporate nature, shapes, animals, diversity, or other age-appropriate themes.
● Engaging & Interactive: Elements that encourage curiosity and storytelling.
● Non-commercial: No logos, advertisements, or promotional content.
Specifications
● Wall Dimensions: See Exhibit A
● Surface Material: Painting would be on one drywall wall in one of the childcare classrooms.
● Preferred Medium: Durable, non-toxic, paint.
● Preparation & Sealant: Artists must ensure the surface is primed (if necessary) and finished with a protective sealant for longevity.
Artist Requirements
● Must have previous mural or large-scale painting experience.
● Provide a portfolio or examples of past work.
● Submit a design concept (sketch or digital illustration) with a brief description of inspiration and materials.
● Must be able to complete the project between May 20 to June 9, 2025.
Budget & Compensation
This is a volunteer opportunity with materials and expenses reimbursed up $1,500.00.
● Materials Coverage: Artists’ materials will be reimbursed provided all receipts are submitted upon completion of the project.
● Recognition: Publicity via social media, local press, YMCA e-newsletters, and website.
● Community Engagement: There is the optional opportunity for an unveiling at our Ribbon Cutting Event on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Submission Process
Interested artists should submit the following by Friday, April 25, 2025:
1. A short bio and portfolio showcasing past work.
2. A concept sketch and description of the proposed design.
3. A budget breakdown (if applicable).
4. Availability and estimated time to complete the mural.
Selection Process
A panel including staff, parents, and community members will review submissions and select artists based on creativity, alignment with the Y’s mission and vision, and feasibility.
