Building a Greener Monroe

MONROE — The City of Monroe and Green County Leaders joined forces to raise over $8,700 from local businesses and community members — added to the City of Monroe’s $5,000 contribution — to install durable recycling bins across local parks. Through focused fundraising and awareness campaigns, this partnership will bring approximately 27 new recycling bins to Monroe’s parks this summer, helping to reduce litter, promote proper recycling, and foster environmental stewardship. Long-term care and maintenance of the bins, including regularly emptying the contents, are already accounted for in the Parks and Recreation budget.

The project’s goal of installing 40 bins is not yet complete. Future support of the project can be directed to the City of Monroe Parks and Recreation. Donations will be greatly appreciated from all those who wish to join us in making a lasting difference in our community.

“Recycling receptacles being added to our parks encourages responsible waste disposal and reduce environmental impact,” said Josh Trame, Parks & Forestry Supervisor, City of Monroe. This initiative helps keep public spaces cleaner and keeps recyclable materials from the landfills. Recycling in our parks isn’t just about keeping our parks clean, its about making an impact on our environment.”
