BATON ROUGE, La. - Cullen Buchanan of Monroe recently was awarded a Love of Learning Award worth $500 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
Buchanan is one of 100 recipients nationwide to receive the award during Session A of the program. Buchanan was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi in 2012 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Buchanan, a fourth-year medical student at the Medical College of Wisconsin, will use funds from the award to help finance his national medical licensing examination fees and subsidize the pursuit of a global health medical elective in his final year.
The selection process for a Love of Learning Award is based on the applicant's academic achievement, campus and community service, intended use of award funds as it relates to academic and career goals, and a personal statement.
