BTC has summer offerings

MONROE - Registration for summer classes at Blackhawk Technical College's Monroe Campus opened on May 1. The summer session starts on Monday, June 9. Classes are offered throughout the summer and registrations can be taken up until shortly before the start date, but some classes have limited space, so early registration is advised. Most classes meet at the BTC Monroe Campus, unless otherwise noted. • Basic Keyboarding, for those who wish to master the computer keyboard using the touch system while developing speed and accuracy; meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 10-July 31;

• Drawing 101, a basic drawing class where students learn to see as artists do. Students work at their own pace with plenty of one-on-one attention while experimenting with several drawing mediums; meets from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, June 11-July 16;

• Computer for Absolute Beginner, offers exposure to the hardware, terminology, and functions of the personal computer; meets from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, June 16-June 30;

• Digital Photography for Beginners, learn how digital cameras work, how to use computer software to make minor corrections and how to save your images in various formats; meets 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, June 16-June 23;

• Woodworking for Beginners, designed for absolute beginners who have little or no experience in working with wood. Students will receive instruction on choosing plans, materials, measuring methods and safe use of common woodworking tools while working on a specific project; meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, June 17-Aug. 5, at Monroe High School;

• Personal Care (Home) Worker, this 40 hour course prepares persons to assist with personal and restorative health care and covers topics including nutrition, safety, communication, restorative care, as well as skills in body mechanics, hygiene care, transfers, vital signs and others necessary to receive a certificate of completion; meets from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, June 18-July 23.
