Brodhead High School senior Andrew Gibler has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy Class of 2012, according to an announcement from Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin. Gibler is the son of Ricky and Angie Clark of Brodhead.
An outstanding athlete and scholar, Gibler is also an Eagle Scout and a musician who plays in several school bands. He will be sworn in at the Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., this summer. Graduates of the program receive a bachelor of science degree and are commissioned in the U.S. Air Force. Gibler hopes to become a pilot.
"It's a great honor to nominate outstanding young people from south central Wisconsin to our service academies and have them accept appointments," Baldwin said. "I wish Andrew well in this exciting and challenging endeavor."
Baldwin nominated Gibler after he won recommendation from her Military Academy Selection Committee, chaired by Judge David Deininger, a former Republican lawmaker from Green County and, himself, a graduate of the Naval Academy.
