BLANCHARDVILLE — Who is to thank for sauerkraut, kimchi, sourdough, kombucha, kefir, pickles, yogurt and cheese? Microbes.
At 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, the Blanchardville Public Library, 208 Mason Street, will hold “Fermentation Freak Out”, presented by Ellen Petrick.
All of these food are produced by the fermentation activities of microorganisms like bacteria, yeast, and fungi. As they digest they actually make the food they are eating more nutritious, and prevent it from spoiling, Petrick will share. Gut microbiomes can help as well.
