DARLINGTON - The Darlington Safe Routes to School task force will host a bike rodeo at the Lafayette County Fairgrounds from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 18. All area children are invited to attend the rodeo to have their skills checked and to learn tips that will keep them safe while biking. This is a free family event and it will be held rain or shine since the safety stations will be within the buildings at the fairgrounds.
Children need to bring their bike and helmet with them so that they may be inspected and properly fitted prior to participating with the safety stations. All children who bring both their bike and helmet with them will receive a coupon for a free treat from McDonald's or Subway. In the event a child does not have a helmet, a free one will be provided while supplies last.
The bike rodeo will have an open house format. A drawing for two free bikes will be held at 6 p.m., and winners need not be present to win.
The Darlington Safe Routes to School task force is chaired by Police Chief Jason King and its members consist of representatives from the Darlington Police Department, Darlington Community Schools, Holy Rosary School, UW Extension, Lafayette Health Department, EMS, and parents of Darlington children. To join the group, call 776-4981.
