BH's forensics team advances to state contest

SOUTH WAYNE - All 20 members of the Black Hawk Forensics team advanced to the Wisconsin High School Forensics District held Saturday, March 26 on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus. The members qualified by earning at least two scores of 16 or above in three rounds at the sub-district contest held at Shullsburg High School on February 28.

Eight members traveled to the Sandy Leopold Memorial Tournament held at Madison Memorial High School on Saturday, March 5. Kate Quinn, who triple-entered in the categories of poetry, oral interpretation of literature, and serious solo acting, performed three different selections for a total of 10 times, advanced the final round in serious solo acting and brought home the fourth place trophy.

On Saturday, Feb. 26, the team traveled to the UW-Whitewater campus to compete in the second annual Speech Bowl. The following nine members advanced to the power round, but all came up just short of trophies: Molly Bechtolt and Quinn in serious solo acting; Michael Krahenbuhl and Michael Wolff in radio speaking; Hillary Holland, Thad Brenum, and Connor Moore; and Alissa Al Chemali and Mary Sidorkina in play acting.

On Saturday, Feb. 19 the team traveled to the Delavan-Darien Forensics tournament. Quinn won second place in serious solo acting; Al Chemali and Sidorkina earned finalists medals in play acting; and Wolff won a finalist medal in radio speaking. Anthony Petitjean and alumni Brianna Ditzenberger, Amy (Brenum) Fritsch, Adrianna Hromadka, Savanna Kaster, Stephanie Pickett, and Danica (Hay) Skattum all judged for the team for these four contests.
