SOUTH WAYNE — Southwestern Wisconsin Community Action Program (SWCAP) reports the receipt of an Alliant Energy Giving for Good sponsorship to support their partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank and the School Districts of Black Hawk and Juda to provide weekend foods to their students.
Beginning in September 2018, Black Hawk’s Warrior Pack Program and Juda’s Panther Pack Program began providing weekend foods to participating students through the partnership. Foods are ordered for each program through Second Harvest and SWCAP volunteers transport the food to the school and fundraise for each program. Each District confidentially issues the foods to participating students, providing an in-kind contribution to the program. Only the district knows the identity of the student.
During 2020, the Warrior Pack Program issued 1,554 weekend food packs to Black Hawk students while the Panther Pack Program issued 1,598 weekend food packs to Juda students. These programs, along with similar programs in the School Districts of Albany, Brodhead, Monticello, New Glarus, and Pecatonica, operate without paid staff and rely on donations and grants.
During 2020, Alliant Energy, it’s Foundation, employees and retirees collectively contributed nearly $8.7 million to Iowa and Wisconsin Communities.
“We’re living our purpose to serve customers and build strong communities by supporting the hard work of organizations fighting hunger,” said Julie Bauer, Alliant Energy Community Affairs Manager. Jeannie Blumer, Chairperson, SWCAP Board of Directors and Volunteer working with the Weekend Food Programs, said “We are grateful for Alliant Energy’s partnership to end food insecurity for area students.”
