BH forensics heads to state events

SOUTH WAYNE - The Black Hawk forensics team will end its competitive season with trips to the Wisconsin High School Forensics Association (WHSFA) state festival on Friday, April 20 on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus and the Wisconsin Forensics Coaches Association (WFCA) state tournament on Saturday, April 21 in Ripon.

Fifteen students from 15 original entries qualified to speak at the WHSFA contest by earning the necessary scores at the district contest held at UW-Platteville on March 24. All contestants are qualified to compete at the WFCA tournament.

Earlier in the season, members of team competed at various tournaments throughout southern Wisconsin.

Earning finalist medals at the UW-Whitewater Speech Bowl on Feb. 25 were Jevon Tuescher and Meshell Akins in play acting, and Tessa Cushman and Kristen Walters in group interpretive reading. Earning trophies at the Six Rivers Conference meet March 10 at Pecatonica High School were Justin Wiegel in radio speaking and Marissa Monson in moments in history. The team also took third place in the Small Team Division at the Lodi tournament on March 17.

The team is coached by Sheila Bredeson, with the assistance of Tony Petitjean.

The team will hold its annual awards banquet on Tuesday, May 8 in the Black Hawk High School commons.
