MONROE - The band Clear Blue Betty returns to Monroe in a new form June 10 when the Beth Kille Band opens this summer's free Concert on the Square series. The performance is slated for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the north side of the Square. The concerts are sponsored by Monroe Main Street and underwritten with major funding from The Monroe Fund and Monroe Clinic. Those attending should bring their own lawn chairs.
Lead singer Kille, who worked at Monroe Clinic, is well-known in southern Wisconsin and has received numerous Madison Area Music Awards, including Entertainer of the Year; Best Rock Artist; Best Rock Album; and Best Female Vocalist. The band features energetic Midwestern rock n' roll to continue the Clear Blue Betty tradition.
Box lunches will be available at various eateries throughout downtown. Ruf's Confectionery will also be open during the concerts. All are located on or near the Square. Special Olympics volunteers will be selling popcorn as a fundraiser. Ruf's provides the popcorn to the group, free of charge.
Beverages will be available at a beer tent sponsored by the Green County Humane Society.
In the event of inclement weather, the concerts will move to either Turner Hall or the Monroe Middle School, both located just two blocks south of the Square. Signs will be posted directing people to either location and announced on WEKZ.
Upcoming concerts include: June 24, Spare Time Bluegrass Band; July 8, The Midwesterners; July 22, Beal Street Jazz; Aug. 5, Saxtet Plus; and Aug. 19, The Jimmys.
