BROWNTOWN — A benefit for 7-year-old Wynonna (Nonna) Bunnell is slated for 3 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 28 at The Ol Grizzly, 108 S. Mill Street, Browntown.

Nonna has two chronic progressive lung diseases, Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) and Bronchiectasis. The rarity of the illnesses has led her to travel to The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. for regular and urgent treatment. There is currently no cure and doctors have said she will live with and battle for the rest of her life.

According to the American Lung Association, Bronchiectasis is a chronic condition where the walls of the bronchi are thickened from inflammation and infection. People with bronchiectasis have periodic flare-ups of breathing difficulties, called exacerbations. PCD is caused by genetic mutations that affect the tiny hairline cilia in the lungs, nose and ears, impairing their ability to remove germs and pollutants, and allowing mucus buildup and infection.

To help the family with travel costs and other support, “Breathe for Nonna” was created. There will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle prizes. Ol Grizzly has been donating 10% of all pizza sales in October to the family.

Monetary donations can be made through Woodford State Bank in Monroe (Wynonna Benefit) or through GoFundMe at https://tinyurl.com/ccj3xzmj.
