BELOIT - The 2008 Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program for Girl Scouts of Badger Council began Saturday, Jan. 5. Girl Scouts began taking orders Jan. 5, and order taking and direct sales will continue through Jan. 26. All proceeds, after paying the baker, stay within Badger Council. A portion of the money stays at the council level to support all types of activities. In addition, 55 cents of every box sold stays within the troop, where girls decide how to spend it, encouraging goal-setting and leadership abilities.
Girl Scouts of Badger Council can opt to participate in the "Cookie Share Program" where customers can donate their purchased box of cookies to a charitable organization that the girls have chosen.
According to Brooke Virgin, product sales director for Badger Council, last year's revenues were used to support camps, science and technology programs, leadership training and special fellowships for girls who would not otherwise be able to participate in the many opportunities offered by Girls Scouts of Badger Council.
Now is the time to stock up on all of your favorites. There are eight to choose from - Thin Mints, Caramel Delites, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Patties, Thanks-A-Lot, Lemonades, and the new one this year, Cinna-Spins, a 100-calorie pack treat of crispy rounds with a cinnamon burst in every bite. All eight varieties are now trans-fat free but with the same great taste. Cookies are still $3.50 per box.
If a Girl Scout does not call on you, you may order cookies by calling Girl Scouts of Badger Council at (608) 362-8922 or (800) 362-3226.
