WHITEWATER - Gary Sanders, a sophomore chemistry major from Belleville, has been elected senator for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's student government.

Whitewater Student Government is the official voice of students at the university, charged with the responsibility to provide student opinion, input and approval. Students are involved in external committees and in the highest decision-making opportunities on campus.

To become a senator, students must fill out paperwork in order to be on the ballot, as well as have 50 signatures from their fellow students. Elections are held in November and senators are sworn into office in January. Student senators serve until December.
