MONROE — The Behring Senior Center has numerous activities and classes planned. Arrangements to participate can be made by calling the senior center at 608-325-3173 or stopping at the center reception desk. Participants must pre-register for all programs, including free ones, so staff will know how many will be attending to order supplies or food. All classes and activities are for people 55 and older.


Classes

●  Drop-In line dancing will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. all Mondays in October and November with Pam Yeagle. There is a cost for this class.

●  A quilting class, Stash Busters, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 8, 15, 22 and 29 with Tereesa Schroeder.  Learn five patterns to make scrappy quilts of table runners. There is a cost for this class and a limit of 15 people.

●  A papercraft ornaments class will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 8 with Bonita Loeffel. There is a cost for this class and a limit of eight people.

●  A computer basics class will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 with Robin McLeish. This very basic computer class is for beginners. Do not bring your laptop or tablet. There is a cost for this class and a limit of eight people.

●  A fall farmhouse signs class will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 with Theresa Klemm. There is a cost for this class and a limit of 12 people.

●  A simple sweater vest knitting class will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Oct. 14, 21, 28 and Nov. 4 with Jocelyn Kline. Supplies needed will be 1,000 yards of worsted yarn and needles. Basic knitting skills required. There is a cost for this class.

●  An AARP driver safety course will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 16. Refresher course of the rules of the road in a classroom setting. Bring your AARP card or check with your insurance company to see if they offer a discount. There is a cost to be paid to the instructor.

●  A spaghetti wildflower class will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 4 with Tracy Signer. Paint with actual spaghetti and fun tools. There is a cost for this class.

●  An introduction to yoga class will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Nov. 4. Bring a blanket to sit on and wear comfortable exercise clothes. There is a cost for this class and a limit of 15 people.

●  A holiday cardmaking class will held be at 1 p.m. on Nov. 19 with Sue Martinez. There is a cost for this class and a limit of 12 people.


Events

●  Breakfast for all veterans and spouses age 55 and over will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 2. Do not come before 8 a.m. The next breakfast will be Nov. 6.

●  There will be a walking group with Bridget at 10 a.m. on Oct. 7, 14, and 21 at the north shelter in Twining Park.

●  Exercise in the Park from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 7, 14, and 21 at the north shelter in Twining Park. There is a cost and a limit of 10 people.

●  A program on hemp oil and CBD oil will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 17. Ben Grossen will talk about all the different things hemp and CBD Oil are used for.

●  A men’s day out at the Monroe National Historic Cheesemaking Center will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 18. There is a cost for the tour at the cheesemaking center. Lunch and transportation are on your own.

●  Chair massage by Melissa Kieler will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 21, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16. Sessions are 20 minutes and you will need an appointment. There is a cost that you will pay Melissa.

●  A program on managing arthritis will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 22, presented by the Monroe Clinic Home Care. Learn types, symptoms and tips to support the condition.

●  The October movie, “POMS,” will be shown at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 24.

●  The singing ventriloquist will perform at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 29. Terry Walker and Danny will be singing a variety of music from oldies to country with some Halloween fun. Limited to 80 people.

●  A financial series by Edward Jones, “Prepare for the Unknown,” will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 29. Join them for lunch and learn about investing in difficult markets. A financial advisor will also be available from 9 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 3 and Oct. 22.

●  A program on WWII concentration camps will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 7. There is a limit of 85 people.

●  “Healthy Eating After 55” with John Park MS, RD, LD from CGH Medical Center in Sterling, Illinois will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 21.

●  Thanksgiving Dinner and entertainment will be at noon on Nov. 23. Reservations will not be taken before Oct. 23. There is a limit of 85 people.
