Behring Senior Center programs planned

MONROE - Behring Senior Center is offering several programs, classes and bus trips starting in May. The senior center, located at 1113 10th St., will also hold the veteran's monthly breakfast from 8 to 9:30 a.m. May 2 for veterans and spouses 55 and older. At the May breakfast, six people will be honored with a Quilt of Valor: David Johnson, Hans Pete McGrath, Jeff Perkins, Randolph Nelson, Billy Hollingsworth Jr. and Dennis Swank. The next breakfast will be June 6. To participate in the following classes and programs, call the Behring Senior Center at 325-3173.



Classes

• How to Buy and Sell on eBay: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. May 14. Instructor Robin McLeish will teach about buying and selling on e-Bay. Some computer knowledge is needed to take this class.

• Final class in three-part health series Lunch and Learn, "Digestive Problems": 11:30 a.m. May 8. Dr. Pete Schmitt has been covering health issues that affect the senior population in a three-part series. There will be a baked potato bar for lunch.

• Travel 101 Class: 10 to 11 a.m. May 7, 14 and 21. Jean Woolworth will teach participants how to plan a trip, survive the TSA and many other tips.

• Sign Painting by The Purple Vessel: 1 p.m. May 7. Participants will get to choose the flower, background and sayings during this pallet-style painting class. The class fee must be paid in advance.

• German II Class: 10 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from May 7 to June 15. If participants already know the basics of German, this six-week class will continue to conversation.

• Painting with Nina: 9 a.m. to noon May 10. Nina will lead an all-new painting class with a subject of a red bird house in a tree.

• Jewelry Class: 1 to 3:30 p.m. June 12. Learn how to make beaded memory coil bracelets and earrings (post or clip-on). The class is limited to eight people.



Programs

• Lincoln and the Civil War: 1:30 p.m. May 22. Dave Ehlert portrays Abraham Lincoln in this free, live theatrical production. Those interested in attending are encouraged to sign up.

• Ditch the Bucket List Program: 1:30 p.m. May 23. Motivational speaker Mary Helen Conroy will talk about leading a meaningful life at this free program.

• Popcorn and Movie: 1:30 p.m. May 29. "Wonder" is about a boy born with a facial deformity, who is destined to fit in at a new school.

• Wildlife in Need: 1:30 p.m. June 5. Representatives from the Wildlife in Need Center in Oconomowoc will visit the senior center to answer questions and bring some of their animal ambassadors. Prospective participants are encouraged to call Behring to save a seat for the free program.

• The Junction Jammers: 1:30 p.m. June 20. The popular local band with perform to an audience limited to 80 people. Reservations are encouraged.



Day Bus Trips

The senior center still has seats available for the following one-day bus trips:

• "Beauty and the Beast" on June 13 at Timber Lake Playhouse in Mount Carroll, Illinois

• "Come Fly Away" on Oct. 9 at the Horicon Marsh and EAA Museum.

• "Grand Victoria Casino" on Nov. 1 in Elgin, Illinois.

• "Barry Manilow Tribute" on Nov. 14 at White Pines in Oregon, Illinois.
