Senior Center plans classes and events

MONROE — The Behring Senior Center has numerous activities and classes planned. Arrangements to participate can be made by calling the senior center at 325-3173 or stop at the center reception desk. Participants must pre-register for all programs, including free ones, so staff will know how many will be attending. All classes and activities are for people 55 and older.

Classes

●    A quilting class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. March 5, 12, 19, and 26. Learn how to make half square triangles and how to put them together. Must know how to use quilting tools. The instructor is Tereesa Schroeder. There is a cost for this class and a limit of 15 people.

●    An abstract acrylic painting class will be held at 1:30 p.m. March 19. Learn how to do acrylic paintings with instructor Linda Shannon. There is a cost for the class which includes all paint, canvases and supplies. Please dress to paint.

●    A Pinterest class, creative coasters, will be held at 1 p.m. March 21. Instructor Theresa Klemm will show you ways to make drink coasters using tiles, cork, alcohol inks, and more. Each person will make a set of four coasters. There is a cost for this class.

●    A computer class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. April 9. Learn how to sell on eBay with Robin McLeish. There is a cost for this class and is limited to eight people.

●    An AARP driver safety course will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 9. This class is a refresher course of road rules. Please bring your AARP card. There is a cost for this class and check to see if it is covered by your insurance.

Events

●    Breakfast for all Veterans and spouses ages 55 and over will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on March 6. Do not come before 8 a.m. The next breakfast will be April 3.

●    A series of financial programs presented by Edward Jones will be held at 11:30 a.m. on March 12 and April 9. Edward Jones will provide lunch to all who participate.

●    An amplified phone program will be held at 1 p.m. March 12. This program helps those with disabilities obtain equipment they need to use the telephone. Call Behring Center or the Health Care Inc. 608-743-4120 or toll free at 888-435-6106 to sign up.

●    A series of programs presented by Jim Glessner. Each program will start at 1:30 p.m. and will feature its own special (non-alcoholic) drink. The Glessners and the Chicago Glessner House on March 20, and George Washington and Fort Necessity on May 22.

●    The March Movie, “The Pledge,” will be at 1:30 p.m. March 28. The movie features real-life veterans sharing thoughts on their experiences. Running time is 118 minutes.

●    An “Over the Rainbow” program will be held at 1:30 p.m. April 30. Craig Siemsen will perform popular songs from the 1930s through the 1960s. Limit of 85 people.
