MONROE — The Behring Senior Center has numerous activities and classes planned. Arrangements to participate can be made by calling the senior center at 325-3173 or stop at the center reception desk. Participants must pre-register for all programs. All classes and activities are for people 55 and older.


Classes

●  A computer basics class will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Aug. 15 with Robin McLeish. This very basic computer class if for beginners. Do not bring your laptop or tablet. There is a cost for this class and a limit of eight people.

●  A senior self-defense class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 16 with Timm Burns. A mix of discussions and hands on training. Wear loose clothing, no shorts or tennis shoes. There is a cost for this class and limited to 12 people.


Events

●  Beach ball volleyball will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Mondays, Aug. 5, 12, 19, and 26 at the Twining Park sand volleyball courts. Contact Bridget at 608-325-8891.

●  Every Tuesday the card game “Horse and Pepper” will be at 1 p.m.

●  Breakfast for all Veterans and spouses ages 55 and over will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 7. Do not come before 8 a.m. We will not be having the breakfast in Sept. because of the brat bash. The next breakfast will be Oct. 2.

●  A magic show and root beer floats will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 with magician Trent Weber. Limit of 80 people.

●  Annual golf outing will be held at 9 a.m. on Aug. 14 at the Wolf Hollow Golf Course, 6546 N Shippee Rd., Lena, Illinois. There is a cost for the golf, cart and lunch and must be paid before Aug. 6.

●  Chair massage by Melissa Kieler will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 19. Sessions are 20 minutes and there is a cost.

●  Market Volatility by Edward Jones will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 19. Lunch will be provided.

●  The Aug. movie “Victoria & Abdul” will be at 1:30 p.m. on Aug 20. 

●  Walking Murder Mystery Tour with Bill Ross will be at 10:45 a.m. on Aug. 22. This is a 75-minute walking tour around the Monroe Square. Lunch is at Turner Hall. There is a cost for the tour and lunch.

●  There will be a walking group with Bridget at 10 a.m. on Mondays starting Sept. 16, 23, 30 and Oct. 7, 14, and 21 at the north shelter at Twining Park.

●  Exercise in the Park from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays starting Sept. 16, 23, 30 and Oct. 7, 14, and 21 at the north shelter at Twining Park. There is a cost.

●  Introduction to Pickleball will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 17. Wear exercise clothes and gym shoes.

●  A men’s day out at Camp Randall will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept 18. There is a cost for the bus and tour and lunch will be on your own. Limited to 20 men.

●  There will be an escape room adventure with Theresa from 10:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 23 in Madison. There is a cost which includes bus and adventure fee and limited to 20 people.

●  A “Neil Diamond Tribute” by Denny “Diamond” Svehla will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 26. There is a limit of 80 people.

●  A ladies day out to the Apple Barn Orchard and Winery will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 9. There is a cost for wagon ride and bus fee and lunch is on your own. 

●  Highground Veterans Memorial Park trip will be held Sept. 17. Open to the public, they do not have to be 55 or older. There is a cost.
