Senior Center plans classes and events
MONROE — The Behring Senior Center has numerous activities and classes planned. Arrangements to participate can be made by calling the senior center at 325-3173 or stop at the center reception desk. Participants must pre-register for all programs, including free ones, so staff will know how many will be attending. All classes and activities are for people 55 and older.
Classes
● A functional medicine program will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 10. Dr. Lara Salyer will talk about what your body needs to build your best life.
● A wine bottle craft class will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 22. Bring your old wine/champagne bottles you want to decorate. There is a cost for this class and a limit of 15 people.
● A seascape art class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 28. Come learn watercolor techniques and create two projects. All supplies included and no experience necessary. There is a cost for this class.
● A quilting class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. March 5, 12, 19, and 26. Learn how to make half square triangles and how to put them together. Must know how to use quilting tools. The instructor is Tereesa Schroeder. There is a cost for this class and a limit of 15 people.
Events
● Breakfast for all Veterans and spouses ages 55 and over will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 9. We ask that you not come before 8 a.m. Next breakfast will be Feb. 6.
● A page out of history will be at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 15. Diana Vance will share a video presentation about Concentration Camp Survivor, Magda Herzberger, who lived in Monroe with her husband from 1957-1976.
● A series of great programs presented by Jim Glessner. Each program will start at 1:30 p.m. and will feature its own special (Non-Alcoholic) drink. The Three Wright Houses will be Jan. 16, Flowers and Pretty Things on Feb. 20, The Glessners and the Chicago Glessner House on March 20, and George Washington and Fort Necessity on May 22.
● The Jan. movie will be “Mr. Popper’s Penguins,” starring Jim Carrey as a successful business man who inherits six penguins. Running time is 94 minutes.
● A Patsy Cline Tribute will be at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 19. Performance by Karen Wickham. There is a limit of 85 people.
