Community Brief

MADISON — Vy Lu and Calli Fiez are the recipients of the 2020 John and Katie Baumann Inspiration Project Scholarship.

This scholarship program assists undergraduate students from Monroe High School who are attending UW-Madison. Both Lu and Fiez are active school and community volunteers who represent the values consistent with the Wisconsin Idea.

Vy Lu recently graduated from Monroe High School, where she played on the tennis team. She and her parents emigrated from Vietnam. Lu volunteered at Big Brothers Big Sisters where she connected with elementary students. She is also an avid reader. Lu is undecided about her major at UW-Madison; however, she will be exploring some of her passions such as psychology.

Calli Fiez is a sophomore at UW-Madison this year, where she is studying to be a nurse. During her freshman year, she was involved in several clubs, including MedLife and the Aspiring Nurses Ass-ociation. She also volunteered at American Family Children’s Hospital. Calli is grateful for being awarded a scholarship for the second year in a row.

John Baumann ’82 and Catherine Doyle-Baumann ‘85 initiated this scholarship fund. They are members of the Badger community and John served on the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association Board of Directors for 11 years. He recently retired from his role as President and CEO of Colony Brands, Inc. after 35-years with the company and now serves as the President of the Colony Brands Foundation.
