DARLINGTON - The Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is hosting its 10th annual Golf Classic Friday, July 23, at the Darlington Golf and Country Club.
The Auxiliary held its first golf event in conjunction with the Memorial Messenger back in 2001. The outing has blossomed into an event that now includes a silent and live auction, raffle, lunch and dinner, live music and more. The volunteers of the Auxiliary coordinate, plan and work the event; it has become their largest annual fundraiser.
There will be golf and flag prizes, including a $10,000 hole-in-one prize if you are lucky enough to sink a shot on hole No. 5. The raffle includes great prizes like an Acer Netbook, a gazing ball, bottle tree, themed baskets and more. Lunch and dinner buffet will be served, a silent auction goes throughout the day and the live auction will begin at 7:30 p.m. lead by auctioneer Dick White. Live music will be performed by "Sunshine," a local band that has played together since 1975. They will entertain us with decades of hits blended with traditional and contemporary country music.
Over the past years, the Auxiliary has generously given more than $67,000 worth of "extras" to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County. These are things that give a special touch to patients, visitors and staff. Some of the items include the beautiful Serenity Terrace, landscaping, birthing suite furniture, various decorative items, laptop/screen/projector unit for a conference room, a Wii gaming system for rehab patients, diaper changing stations, lobby and patient room furniture, a patient activities cart and much more. This year the group's efforts will focus on entertainment systems for dialysis patients, which are specialized private televisions that can be used while they are here for a three to four hour treatment, three times a week.
