ARGYLE - Laurie Aaron Hird, regional author and quilter, will discuss and sign copies of her books, "The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt: Letters from 1920s Farm Wives and the 111 Blocks They Inspired" and "The Farmer's Wife Pony Club Sampler Quilt: Letters From the Lucky Pony Winners of 1915 and 90 Blocks That Tell Their Stories" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Argyle Public Library, 401 E. Milwaukee St.

In 2009, the first of her two historical quilt books was published. Aaron Hird's books combine classic sampler quilt blocks with letter excerpts taken from "The Farmer's Wife" magazine that was published from 1903 through 1939.

During her talk, she will read letter excerpts from the early 1900s written by women and children, show covers from her extensive Farmer's Wife magazine collection and display her two hand-pieced sampler quilts.

The free event will have refreshments available.
