Juda

Back to School night is Sept. 21

JUDA - Back to School night for Juda Elementary will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21. The entire Juda community is invited to attend this event. Parents and community members can tour the school. There will also be a book fair set up in the library for those interested in purchasing or donating any books.

The Juda Booster Club supper will be serving a ham dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Starting at 6 p.m., the powderpuff football game will be played, followed by men's volleyball. The football game will be on the baseball field next to the school, and the volleyball will be played in the gymnasium.

There will also be a staff table from 5 to 6 p.m., to answer any questions or field any comments on topics ranging from academic co-op, school schedule, citizenship, the mathematics task force and more.

Browntown

Harvest picnic set for Sept. 18

BROWNTOWN - The Jordan Lutheran Church will host the Jordan Harvest Picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18 at W9006 Smock Valley Road, north of Browntown.

The menu will include BBQ and brats, potato salad, coleslaw, corn, cheese and a beverage. The cost is $8 for adults, and $5 for kids 6 to 12. Children under 6 eat free.

Monroe

Spell-a-Brate night is Sept. 28

MONROE - The Literacy Council of Green County will host Spell-a-Brate - a night of casual games of Scrabble for a cause - from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the second floor conference room of the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave., Monroe.

The cost to attend the event, which will also include a silent auction, is $20 per person. The schedule for the event is as follows.

- 5:30 to 6 p.m. - Registration

- 6 to 6:30 p.m. - Rules, announcements and questions

- 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. - Game 1

- 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. - Break, refreshments and silent auction

- 7:45 to 8:30 p.m. - Game 2

- 8:30 to 9 p.m. - Tabulation and winners announced

Monroe

Historical society to meet Sept. 21

MONROE - The Green County Historical Society will hold a general meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the museum, 1617 9th St., Monroe.

Brodhead

Apple Festival Bazaar is Saturday

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead United Methodist Church, 501 1st Center Ave., Brodhead, will host the annual Apple Festival Bazaar from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17.

The bazaar will feature a bake sale, candy sale, jams and jellies, used books and craft items for sale. There will also be a silent auction on several items, including quilts, handmade jewelry, collectibles and more.

A complete lunch will be available all day, with pie, ice cream, sandwiches, salads and beverages. The Brodhead United Methodist Church is handicapped accessible.

Monticello

Historical society to meet Sept. 22

MONTICELLO - The Monticello Area Historical Society will hold a general meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Zwingli United Church of Christ, 416 E. Lake Ave., Monticello.

Guest speaker Tom Vale, Monroe, will speak on the Civil War and how it pertains personally to his family. The meeting is open to the public.

Juda

Booster supper slated for Sept. 21

JUDA - The Juda Booster Club will sponsor a scalloped potato and ham dinner, which will be held 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the school cafeteria.

Cost for the dinner is $6 for adults and $3.50 for kids 10 and younger. Other Homecoming activities start at 6 p.m., including the powderpuff game and boys volleyball.
