MTG holding audtions for holiday variety show
MONROE - The Monroe Theatre Guild is holding auditions for the Carol Burnett Holiday Variety Show at the theater, 91016th Ave., Monroe.
Auditions are from 4 to 6, Sunday, Oct. 16; from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17; and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19.
During the auditions, actors will be asked to read from a sample script, which can be found at monroetheatre.com.
Those who are interested in performing a musical number are asked to bring a sheet music. An accompanist will be available.

Harvest Auction Luncheon slated for Oct. 19
MONROE - The Stateline Women's Connection is hosting the "Harvest Auction Luncheon" at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Peppercorn Banquets at Ludlow Mansion, 1421 Mansion Drive, Monroe. The event starts with a silent auction at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $8, which includes tax, tip and program.
Terri Schmitt will give a presentation on "The Language of Love." Schmitt, a former retail buyer and owner of My Specialtea, will talk about how learning the language of love was hardest for her.
Jane Olson, accompanied by JoAnn Hawthorn, will perform selections from "The Sound of Music."

African Dance lessons to be given on Oct. 22
ALBANY - Albany Community Center is hosting the West African Dance Center of Madison for African dance lessons from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at the community center, 400 5th St., Albany.
The cost for the lesson is $10 for the first child or adult and $5 for each additional sibling, or related child. Registration is requested but not required.
The West African Dance Center performed at the Albertson Memorial Library during the summer. Otehlia Cassidy is the instructor, and has been studying west African dance for more than 12 years in the U.S., as well as Guinea and Mali, West Africa.

UMC to host roast beef dinner and fabric sale
ALBANY - The Albany United Methodist Church will host a roast beef dinner and quilt and fabric sale from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Albany Lions Club, 402 Cincinnati St., Albany.
The dinner menu will consist of roast beef, mashed potatoes, a vegetable, salad, dessert, and beverages. Additionally, there will be a quilt and fabric sale, as well as a silent auction featuring quilts made by Yvonne Clark.
Tickets cost $9 for adults ($1 more at the door) and $5 for children 3 to 12 ($1 more at the door). Kids 2 and under are free. All proceeds from the event will go to the Albany United Methodist Church Building Fund.
