Bazaar and dinner is tomorrow

LENA - The annual bazaar and beef and noodle dinner will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 625 County Lane Drive.

The bazaar opens at 8:30 a.m. and coffee and rolls will be served as a free-will offering from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Bazaar items include homemade noodles, baked goods, homemade candy, Thanksgiving and Christmas items and crafts. There will be a White Elephant sale.

A drawing will be held at a price of $1 per ticket. The first-place prize is a sampler pattern quilt and second-place prize is a Dresden plate pattern quilt.

Serving for dinner begins at 11 a.m. and costs $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 12, and children 5 and under are free (dine-in only). Menu items include beef and noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, jello salads, relishes, dinner rolls, pie or angel food cake, and coffee or milk. Carry-outs are available by calling (815) 369-4035. Organizers ask for carry-out orders for six or more to be placed in advance.

Flu shots will be given on from 9 a.m. to noon. The CDC guidelines will be followed regarding the eligibility for the vaccine. No appointments are required and the cost is $25 for anyone who does not have a Medicare card.

Monroe

Fall bazaar slated for Nov. 12

MONROE - Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold its annual Fall Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the church, 1025 15th Ave.

Along with crafts, bargain craft supplies, bake sale items, silent auction items and a wide variety of books and cookbooks are available.

A coffee time menu is available, including coffee, chai tea, and fresh baked cinnamon rolls. A lunch menu includes chili, vegetable chili, grilled cheese sandwiches and apple or pumpkin pies.

Brooklyn

Hist. society to meet on Nov. 12

BROOKLYN - The Brooklyn Area Historical Society will host an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Brooklyn Community Building, 102 N. Rutland Ave.

The event will feature a presentation at 1:30 p.m. by a representative from the State Historical Society on historic properties and architecture in and around Brooklyn. There will be museum like display of photos, documents and artifacts of Brooklyn and the area history.

There will be two fundraisers "Old Fashioned Desserts at Old Fashioned Prices" and "Yesteryear Sales" during the event.

FFA selling food items until Nov. 29

ALBANY - Albany FFA will be selling fruit, nuts, cheese and sausage, and popcorn for the holidays until Nov. 29.

The fundraiser helps support FFA activities throughout the year. Products available include California navel oranges, Texas red grapefruit, Clementines, Washington Red and Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Fuji and Braeburn apples, and 13 different mixed fruit and holiday boxes.
