Geocaching to be featured at this year's Clean Up Day

ALBANY - The Village of Albany will be sponsoring its eighth annual Clean Up Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 12 for the forest behind the Ball Park.

The Clean Up Day, associated with the Tree City USA Program, has a special twist this year: Local geocacher Wayne Stemple has organized a local "Cache In Trash Out."

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the world-wide geocaching community. While searching for caches, geocachers collect litter along the trails and properly dispose of it.

To volunteer, contact the village hall at (608) 862-3240 by Saturday, May 5.
