United Way taking applications
MONROE - Applications are currently being accepted for 2013 funding by the United Way of Green County, Inc.
United Way allocations are awarded to support local programs working to improve the education, income and health of people in the community. The United Way accepts requests for funding from all qualified programs working to meet the needs of Green County residents in areas including helping children and youth to succeed; meeting basic needs; building self-sufficiency; and promoting health and wellness.
Agencies applying for United Way funding must have, or be operating under a fiscal agent with, a tax-exempt status under the 501(c) (3) and must have conducted for at least one year immediately proceeding admission to participation, a recognized program of health, welfare, or other non-profit activity providing services to residents of Green County. If agencies do not meet these requirements, the program cannot be considered for 2013 funding.

Shakespeare Project to present workshop
MONROE - Shakespeare on the Edge Inc. will present an all-day workshop with David Daniel of the American Players Theatre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St.
The workshop is for ages 9 to 18 and the cost is $75, with lunch included. Shakespeare Project youth are free.
Daniel works with the Shakespeare Project each season for a day-long workshop and will push the youth to find their inner voice and confidence.
Participants must be pre-registered or currently part of the Shakespeare Project.
The works of Shakespeare contain adult themes which might be addressed in this workshop at a PG level.

Lunch Bunch slated to meet on Monday
DARLINGTON - The Lunch Bunch will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, March 12 in the County Board Room of the Lafayette County Courthouse, 627 Washington St.
Participants can bring their own lunch during this informal hour.
Presenters for the session will be Mary Knellwolf, Lafayette County family living educator. She will discuss distorted portion sizes, the obesity trend, and the new My Plate dietary guideline.
The free session is open to the public and is sponsored in part by Lafayette County Home and Community Education, UW-Extension, and free-will donations.
