March Chicken Madness is Sunday

MONROE - The First Baptist Church will host March Chicken Madness Sunday, March 27. Worship will be at 10:45 a.m. with old-fashioned hymns and old-fashioned Gospel preaching. After the service, the church will be host a free chicken meal with all the fixings.

Participants are invited to bring a favorite chicken meal; there will be a prize for best chicken dish. The dinner will follow the service at Northside Elementary Cafeteria-across the street. Rides are available and a shuttle bus is available to pick up anyone in a wheelchair.

Lena

Spring Show is slated for May 7

LENA - A Spring Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 7, at the Lena Community Center, Lena. Those attending will be able to shop from more than 40 vendors.

There will also be a silent auction benefiting the Safe Haven shelter in Elizabeth, Ill. Donations of money, pet food and toys will be accepted for the shelter. There will be door prizes and a grand prize of $100 given away.

LENA

Beef supper is April 9 at church

LENA - The United Methodist Church of Lena will host a roast beef supper from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at the church.

The meal will be served buffet style, with roast beef, mashed potatoes, and gravy, corn, cole slaw, rolls, pie and beverage. Tickets for adults cost $8 and children under 12 are $4. Carry-outs and shut-in delivery service is available. Call (815) 369-5291.

Benefit breakfast for victim planned

ALBANY - A benefit breakfast for Clay Spooner will be held from 8 a.m, to noon, April 10 at Albany American Legion, Albany. Clay, 12, lost his parents in an car accident earlier this month and is in the Madison hospital enduring many surgeries.

Darlington

School conferences to be held March 31

DARLINGTON - Spring Parent Teachers conference for grades K-12 in the Darlington Community School District will be held Thursday, March 31.

Parents of students attending grades K-6, at the Darlington Elementary and Middle School will have pre-scheduled conferences times. Parents of seventh- and eighth-graders may attend conferences from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 31. All K-8 grade academic and allied arts teachers conferences will be held in respective classrooms. Parents may pick up report cards from the classroom teacher.

At the high school, conference times will be from 4 to 9 p.m., Thursday, March 31. Report cards for high school students will be available from each student's advisor. All high school teachers and advisors will be located in the gym.
