FREEPORT - The American Red Cross Shelters in Freeport and in Thomson, Ill., are on standby.
The Red Cross is prepared to open the shelters if needed.
Assistance remains available for individuals who have been affected by flooding.
Those needing assistance can contact the American Red Cross in Clinton, Iowa, at (563) 242-5223 or in Freeport at (815) 233-0011.
The Red Cross is assessing the damage caused by flooding and is monitoring water levels throughout the region. The Red Cross is responding to residents as their needs are identified, including providing shelter and food.

Argyle girl wins coloring contest
BELOIT - First National Bank and Trust Company's First Saver's Club held a coloring contest in June.
More than 70 kids across the stateline area participated in the contest. Two winners were chosen based on age and creativity. Hannah Gierhart, Argyle, was the winner of the 1- to 7-year-old age group and Alex Rhode, Beloit, was the winner of the 8- to 13-year-old age group. Both winners received a gift basket of toys and games to teach them more about the importance of saving and money management.

Police to host brat feed, ball game
DARLINGTON - The City of Darlington Police Department will host its annual Police Brat Feed and Ball Game Thursday, Aug. 5, at Riverside Park.
Officers will be serving up brats, hot dogs, chips and beverages beginning at 5 p.m.
At 7 p.m., local, county and state law enforcement officers will comprise The Enforcers soft ball team that will face up in a ball game against The Community All Stars team, which is made up of various Darlington business representatives and community members.
This is the 13th year the department has hosted the event, which benefits the Darlington Drug Abuse Resistance Education program. The Darlington DARE program is taught in first and third grades at Holy Rosary Catholic School as well as fifth grade at the Darlington Elementary-Middle School.
The program includes follow-up presentations in the seventh and eighth grades as well as a Role Model program in the junior and senior levels.
