Genealogical group to meet Feb. 5

MONROE - The Green County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 in the upper level of the Monroe Public Library.

Elections for the coming year will be on the agenda. Also to be discussed will be upcoming programs, cemeteries to be walked and published, and the indexing projects. The group's annual Show and Share program will be held after the business meeting. Anyone with items of genealogical or heirloom interest may bring them to share.

Legion scholarship deadline nears

MONROE - Zilmer-Riley American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 84 scholarship applications and rules for 2011 high school graduates can be picked up at the American Legion Post Home, 1627 12th Ave., by Thursday, Jan. 27.

Those eligible include current members of the American Legion Auxiliary or Post, or a child, step-child, grandchild, step-grandchild, great-grandchild or step-great-grandchild of a current member of the Auxiliary or Post. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 22.

They may be returned to Ada Swanton, 2402 8th St., Monroe, WI 53566.

Weaver to sign copies of novel

WARREN - Author Katlyn Weaver will have a book-signing event from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Warren Public Library, Warren.

Weaver, a resident of Darlington, will be available to sign copies of her romance and suspense novel, "The Forbidden Mansion."

Weaver's novel is described as a blend of romance and adventure in a fast-paced tale of treachery and trepidation. The inexplicable vanishing of townspeople, a secret tunnel, and the crazed inhabitant within are all a part of the mystery surrounding "The Forbidden Mansion."

Privilege Plus Club to meet Feb. 8

MONROE - First National Bank and Trust Company's Privilege Plus Club will host a meeting about upcoming trips at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8 in the Community Room of First National Bank, Monroe.

Snow shoe walk, wine tasting set

BROWNTOWN - Friends Of Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area will sponsor a snow shoe walk and wine tasting at noon, Saturday, Feb. 19, at Browntown Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area.

The event will include wines from Brennan's Country Farm Market, snacks and a campfire at the end. The registration fee is $20 per person, with children 15 and under free. A state parks vehicle admission sticker is required.

Proceeds from the day will be used to help purchase new playground equipment for the park. Snow shoes are optional. If there is no snow, the group will take a winter hike.

HCC adult ed seeking tutors

REEPORT - Highland Community College Adult Education Program has set a tutor informational meeting from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Freeport Public Library in a main floor meeting room. The program seeks volunteers to tutor math, reading, writing or English as a Second Language.
