Genealogical group to meet March 5

MONROE - Russ Horton will speak on Genealogical Resources at the Veterans Museum at the March 5 meeting of the Green County Genealogical Society. The meeting will be at 10 a.m. in the upper level at the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave., Monroe.

Horton will discuss the holdings and using the resources at the Veteran's Museum. The program is open to the public.

The group will also discuss plans for a workday to clip obituaries and clean up the storage area at the research center. For more information about the society or the meeting, call 608-325-2326.

Applications for scholarship due

MONROE - Applications for the 2011 Wisconsin Licensed Cheesemaker Scholarship is due to Wisconsin Cheese Originals before 5 p.m. Monday, March 7. The $2,500 scholarship will be granted to one aspiring cheesemaker earn his or her license to produce farmstead, artisan or specialty cheeses.

The recipient will be selected and notified by April 1.

Wisconsin Cheese Originals, an organization dedicated to growing and promoting the Wisconsin artisan cheese community, is offering the scholarship for the second year. Last year's recipient, Katie Hedrich, is currently working with her family to produce farmstead goat cheeses.

Applicants must be a Wisconsin resident and must demonstrate ambition to pursue and obtain a Wisconsin Cheesemaker License, a lengthy process that can take as long as 18 months, requires the attendance at five university courses, as well as 240 hours of apprenticeship with an existing licensed Wisconsin Cheesemaker.

MTG offers mask workshop in March

MONROE - Monroe Theatre Guild will host a "Mask and Movement" workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 5, 12 and 19 for ages 14 and up. The workshop will be taught by Eileen Horn.

Scheduled for 3 consecutive Saturdays in March, the class is designed to be a fun and inspiring way to enhance acting skills. Participants will develop physical movement skills that can be applied to theatrical performance. IN Week 1, participants will create a neutral mask.

In Weeks 2 and 3, they will use the mask to tell stories and develop characters in both group and solo work.

The cost is $36 for MTG members and $40 for non-members. It will be held at MTG's STAGE building in Monroe. More information can be found at www.monroetheatre.com. or by calling 325-1111.

Troop to host pancake supper

LENA - The Boy Scout Troop 91 will hold an all-you-can-eat, pancake and sausage supper from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 7, at the Lena American Legion Hall, Lena, Ill.

Tickets are available from Lena Boy Scouts or at Lean Maid Meats. Tickets for ages 3 to 10 cost $4 in advance and $4.50 at the door, while tickets for adults cost $6 in advance and $6.50 at the door.

All proceeds will help fund summer camp for the Scouts.
