Business donates items to groups

Twelve area organizations were invited to select any merchandise they wanted, free-of-charge.

Some groups are even selling the merchandise in their fundraisers, and others are putting the merchandise to use or passing it along to those who will.

"We are incredibly blessed by our community's spirit of volunteerism and wanted to use this opportunity to say 'thanks' to area service organizations for all they do," Monroe Clinic Vice President of Service Excellence, Cindy Werkheiser, said in a release.

Clare's Closet, a gift shop staffed primarily by non-paid volunteers, will remain open in its current space on the second floor of Monroe Clinic's hospital until its move in early 2012 to the new hospital building, where it will be located at the lobby entrance.

Each year, proceeds from gift shop sales fuel scholarships, support patient care initiatives and offer patient hospitality measures, such as magazines, coffee and newborn swaddle wraps.
