Albany

'The Messengers' slated for Aug. 21

ALBANY - The Messengers, a musical outreach ministry, will bring its blend of gospel and contemporary Christian music from its home base in Baraboo, to Albany United Methodist Church from 8 to 10 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 21.

"Using the musical talents God has given us is our way of bringing a very special message to people," Messengers member Jim Allen said in a release. "We are truly an ecumenical group, appearing at the invitation of congregations of many faiths."

The group, which includes a doctor of internal medicine, a piano technician, an accountant and a middle school music teacher, has been together for 28 years.

What has become an ongoing ministry began when the group formed to sing one song at a Good Friday service in 1983.

They now average 15 to 20 appearances each year. Three concert tours have taken them to Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington D. C.

The Messengers are vocalists Jim Allen, Rex Flygt and Jim Kieffer, and pianist Charlene Flygt. Several of the group's recordings will be available at the service.

The public is invited to join. For more information, contact the church office at (608) 862-3206.
