Wis. Bookworms fundraiser Aug. 16
MONROE - The Wisconsin Bookworms Project of Green County Home and Community Education (HCE) will hold a fundraising event from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Pizza Hut, 550 8th Ave., Monroe.
For each adult buffet sold, Pizza Hut will donate $2 for books and expenses for the Wisconsin Bookworms Project. The Wisconsin Bookworms Project sends volunteers into classrooms in Green County to read to the children. A new book is read each month and then sent home for a child to keep.From October through May 2012, on every Thursday of the month, readers will visit Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy, Monroe.

Green-Rock Audobon hosts birthday bash
EVANSVILLE - The Green-Rock Audubon Society (GRAS) will celebrate its 20th birthday at a free event from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the Creekside Place, 102 Maple St., Evansville. As a member of the National Audubon Society, the Green-Rock Society is devoted to bird conservation.All members, past and present are invited to join the celebration.
The public is also invited to share in the birthday cake and evening entertainment.

Church Cornboil planned for August 20
BRODHEAD - Bethlehem Lutheran Church will host a corn boil from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the church, 405 E. 9th Ave. (County T), Brodhead.
Rain or shine, the event will feature sweet corn, pork-chop sandwiches, hot dogs, applesauce, beverages and various pie bars for dessert. Additionally, there will be live entertainment, games for children, a dunk tank, a basket auction and more. Proceeds from the basket auction will go to the Green County Family Promise program, to help homeless families.

Tae Kwon Do class registration to start Aug. 30
MONROE - Registration is now open for Monroe Parks and Recreation karate classes, which will be held from Aug. 30 to Nov. 22.The program is based on Tae Kwon Do, with contributions from judo, boxing and other martial arts, and it will cover basics, forms, self-defense and sparring.
The class is taught by Timm Burns and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The youth class (7 to 12 year olds) will be held from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., and the adult class (13 and older) will be held from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. Those new to the program are encouraged to come and observe a couple classes to make sure it is right for them. The cost for the course is $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Registration may done at the downtown Park and Recreation office.
