Sons of Norway to meet Dec. 9

MONROE - Monroe Sons of Norway Ostestaden Lodge will meet Thursday, Dec. 9, for their annual Christmas party. The group will meet at 6 p.m. in the Grace Lutheran Church basement, followed by a potluck meal. Members are asked to bring a large, or two smaller dishes, to pass.

The lodge will provide Norwegian musical entertainment by Stark Duo. Lefse also will be provided by the lodge.

The meeting also serves as a membership drive - with special savings and incentives for those joining the lodge that night. Guests are welcome.



Monroe

Pokémon tourney is set for Saturday

MONROE - A Pokémon tournament is planned from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Monroe Public Library.

The tournament is open to players of all skills.

The event is designed for beginner, trainer (intermediate) and master (expert) levels. The individual games follow the official Diamond and Pearl Pokémon rules.

Each player will be able to use their own Pokémon deck to compete with other players. Players can bring as many different decks (60 cards exactly) as they want, but they can play with only one deck per battle. Please bring damage counters, if possible. Players without complete decks of 60 cards can borrow decks from other players.

All participants 10 years old and under must have a parent or guardian present in the library during the session.

Supper for hockey slated for Thursday

MONROE - A spaghetti supper to benefit Monroe Youth Hockey will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2 at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe.

Tickets cost $7 for adults and $4 for children 5 to 12. Children under 4 are free. Tickets are sold in advance and are available from any Monroe Youth Hockey member. They will also be available at the door.

Tickets for the 50/50 raffle cost $10 each.

Dems meeting open to the public

DARLINGTON - Lafayette County Democratic Party will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the First Banking Center, Darlington. Everyone is welcome to attend to help plan events for the coming year. The meeting is open to the public.

Monroe

Open houses are Saturday, Sunday

MONROE - The Decorated Holiday open houses will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, and Sunday, Dec. 5.

The open houses are open to the public. The event will be at the homes of Karne and Dan Nufer, 1212 3rd St., Monroe, and Gretchen and John Gruber, 2023 7th St., Monroe. Refreshments will be served. The event has an additional free-will offering to the American Cancer Society.
