Area students earn $1,000 scholarships

DARLINGTON - During the July 21, quarterly board meeting of the Memorial Healthcare Foundation (MHF), Treasurer John Knellwolf and Committee Chairman Lee Gill presented the 2009 $1,000 scholarship awards.

"As a CNA at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County (MHLC), my co-workers really urged me to continue my education. Without this hospital (MHLC), I would not be where I am today," award recipient Amber Capp, Darlington said.

Capp is currently studying nursing at Northeast Iowa Community College in Peosta. She is married to Brandon Capp and is the daughter of John and Pam Harker, Shullsburg. Capp thanks her family and friends for their support as she continues her education.

Carly Miehe, Darlington, is currently studying nursing at Clarke College in Dubuque.

She is the daughter of Arnie and Ann Miehe and will be a junior this fall. "When I was 3, this ER saved my life, my family truly appreciates having this hospital so close. After graduation, I hope to come back to work in this area," Miehe said.

Jennifer Mulcahy is also currently studying nursing at Southwest Technical College in Fennimore. Mulcahy is the daughter of John and Tammy Mulcahy and is currently working for Family Health at the Argyle Clinic.

Unable to be present to receive their awards, Samantha Monahan, Shullsburg, is currently studying for a bachelor of science degree in nursing at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Monahan is the daughter of Marsha and Kevin Einsweiler and Ron Monahan, Shullsburg.

Shanna Martin, Gratiot, is currently studying cytotechnology at the School of Cytotechnology in Madison. Martin is the daughter of Daniel and Lisa Martin, Gratiot.
