MONROE - Three Green County area youth were recently selected to receive the inaugural scholarships from the South Central Wisconsin Master Gardener Association. The scholarships are funded through proceeds of the annual plant sale sponsored by the Master Gardener volunteers and awarded to qualifying youth who are enrolled in secondary education in a horticulture related field of study.
The applicant must be a graduate of a Green County area high school or a Green County resident continuing their education after high school. Applicants may attend a four-year university or a technical college. Scholarships were awarded on the basis of information provided by the applicant that included their field of study, giving a brief explanation of their need for this scholarship and the significance of its benefits to their future plans, including personal goals and objectives.
Up to $1,000 will be distributed annually at the discretion of the South Central Wisconsin Master Gardener Association. Receiving scholarships were: Tanner Stunz of Brodhead, Kevin Becker of Juda and Jacob Marty of Monticello.
These youth were formally recognized at the Master Gardener plant sale on Saturday, May 8. For more information, contact Mark Mayer at the UW-Extension Office at 328-9440.
