BRODHEAD - Scott Garwick of Davis, Ill., has accepted the request to be the Grand Marshal for the 4th annual Bike for Habitat ride in Brodhead on Saturday, May 16. Garwick has participated in the ride each of the previous years and has been instrumental in spreading the word about the ride with our neighbors to the south.
Like most bicycle enthusiast, his love for cycling began as a kid and carried into adulthood. In 2006, after getting away from cycling for several years, Garwick decided that he needed more exercise and borrowed his son's mountain bike. That was the first year the Bike for Habitat event was held, and he decided to join in. It seemed like a perfect fit for him; as he already had a good feeling about Habitat and the work they do from his experience in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. Garwick and his family were living in Louisiana near the area where Habitat was building new homes. He said it was very refreshing to see these new homes in the midst of such devastation. Upon his return to the Midwest, he and his wife Susan became involved with the Freeport Habitat for Humanity. Through his company, Garwick Electric, he has had the privilege to help with two new homes and experience first hand how the work of HFH can change peoples lives.
Garwick says he looks forward to the Bike for Habitat ride each year, and now his whole family is involved. His wife Susan is signed up to help at registration, and his son Stuart is planning to ride along and is getting friends and neighbors to join in. He would like to encourage all of you to join him and the rest of the riders to help Green County Habitat for Humanity raise much needed funds to not only build homes, but to build lives.
Additional information and a printable registration form can be found at www.greencountyhabitat.org. Help make a difference in your community by helping to raise money to build simple, decent homes for families in need.
