MONROE - Monroe Kiwanians, scouts and others will venture Saturday to Canyon Camp, BSA, near Apple River, Illinois, for the 39th consecutive Woodcutter's Ball, sponsored by Monroe Kiwanis.
This workday prepares the camp for the winter camping season, which involves cutting up downed trees and delivering split firewood to cabins. This year will focus on flood cleanup and repair. Besides myriad projects, maintenance on existing buildings and grounds will be scheduled.
Kiwanians and friends of the camp are invited to participate. Those helping should dress in work clothes and bring chainsaws, tools, pickups and trailers to haul wood and clean up flood debris. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided.
The camp can be located by taking the first highway south at the west edge of the village once you reach Apple River. Direction signs are west of Apple River city limits.
