Annual UCC Autumn Fest set for Oct. 21

MONROE - St. John's United Church of Christ will host its annual Autumn Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 21 in fellowship hall of the church. Lunch is served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu choices will include chicken bake delight or a barbecue sandwich, corn or green bean casserole, choice of salad, homemade pie or dessert and a beverage. The cost is $10 for adults and teens, $5 for ages 4-12 and free for ages 3 and under.

The church is handicapped accessible. Carryout's will be available.

Events during the festival will include a silent auction, bake sale, crafts and handiwork sales and a quilt raffle that was pieced by Ila Duerst and hand-quilted by St. John's Sewing Ladies. A drawing for the quilt will be held at 1:30 p.m. Ticket-holders do not need to be present to win.

NEW GLARUS — The New Glarus School District continues to demonstrate strong results in student achievement, growth, and financial stewardship, according to the latest ECRA report analyzing Wisconsin school district performance for the 2023-2024 academic year.


Outstanding Student Performance

New Glarus students achieved high rankings in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, placing among the best in the state:

●  ELA Proficiency: 93rd percentile

●  Math Proficiency: 92nd percentile

●  Overall Growth Score: 96th percentile

Additionally, students from low socioeconomic backgrounds also demonstrated significant progress, with a 92nd percentile Target Group Achievement Score and a 94th percentile Target Group Growth Score.


Financial Stewardship and District Strengths

New Glarus remains fiscally responsible while maintaining a high-quality educational experience. The district’s Total Current Educational Cost per Student stands at $13,479, ranking in the 41st percentile.  The report also showed that the District gets 43.8% of its revenue from property tax.  While practicing fiscal responsibility, the District has been able to retain staff and the average teacher experience is 17.6 years, which is in the 96th percentile.


Demographics and District Characteristics

With an enrollment of 957 students (51st percentile), New Glarus maintains a 12:1 student-to-staff ratio (67th percentile), supporting individualized learning. The district boasts a Graduation/Attendance Score of 98.5 (82nd percentile) and a Chronic Absenteeism Rate Score of 91.3 (77th percentile).

Superintendent Jennifer Thayer praised the district’s achievements, stating, “This report reaffirms our commitment to academic excellence and responsible financial management. Our students continue to excel, thanks to the dedication of our educators, staff, and the support of our community.”
