MONROE - The third annual "Angels Among Us of Green County" run/walk will take place April 23 at the SLICE Ice Arena, 1632 4th Ave. West, Monroe.
There will be activities throughout the morning, including a silent auction at 10:30 a.m. featuring paintings by local artists Jennifer Rikkers and Deborah Meyer.
Check-in at SLICE begins at 9 a.m. with opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m.; the walk/run starts at 10 a.m., beginning and ending at SLICE. The course is the outskirts of the city limits and adjacent countryside on blacktop and scenic off-road trail terrain. No official timing system will be used, but a race clock will be at the finish. The event will be held regardless of the weather. The cost is $30 per person, which includes a T-shirt, or $100 for a family or team. There is no limit on how many can be on a team, and the team cost includes up to four shirts.
Funds raised from last year's event helped pay for a school program that was presented to eight area schools Feb. 22-25, reaching about 4,000 students and including an evening presentation for parents and community members.
The benefactors of the event will be Jacob's SWAG Foundation Inc. and Tyler's TEAM Foundation Inc. The foundations exist to increase education regarding and awareness of suicide prevention and mental health for the individuals, families and communities of Green County.
Sponsors are being sought, as sponsorships are paramount to the success of the event. The names of sponsors will be displayed at the event, in local papers and through social media blasts. There are five levels of sponsorship: Community, for donations up to $50; Strength, from $51 to $149; Courage, from $150 to $299; Hope, from $300 to $499; and Protector, for donations of $500 or more. Protector sponsors will have their name and logo on the event T-shirts. All contributions are tax-deductible.
