MIDDLETON - Two Green County American Legion Posts were awarded the National Commander's Post Excellence Award at the Wisconsin Department of the American Legion Convention on July 21.

The awards were present by the National Commander Fang Wong to Allen Fjelstad, Commander of Stuessy-Kuenzi Post 141 of New Glarus, and Bruce Sutherland, of Swann-Gehr Post 197 of Brodhead.

The award is based on the posts making significant contributions to the four areas of emphasis for the American Legion, which include support for veterans affairs and rehabilitation; support for a strong national defense; support for programs for American youth; and support for projects helping the community, state and nation. In addition, honored posts must have increased their membership by at least one member during the 2012 year.

Also honored at the convention were Stan and Barb Erlandson, Brodhead, as the volunteers of the year for the Wisconsin Department. Stan Erlandson is the Adjutant of the Swann-Gehr Post 197 of Brodhead and Barb Erlandson is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit of McDermott-Steindorf Post 144 of Albany and is the First Vice President of the Green County Council of the American Legion Auxiliary.
