Alzheimer’s, dementia summit Nov. 7 in Monroe

MONROE — The annual Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia Summit will take place Nov. 7 at United Methodist Church, 2227 4th Street, Monroe. Registration begins at 9 a.m. 

The event will feature keynote speaker Susan H. McFadden, Ph.D. and is sponsored by the Aging and Disability Resource Center, the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin and Monroe Clinic. Dr. Susan McFadden is Professor Emerita of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where she taught courses on adult development and aging, as well as seminars on dementia studies. In 2011, McFadden co-founded the Fox Valley Memory Project, which aims to create a dementia-friendly community in northeast Wisconsin. Her keynote presentation is entitled, “Living Well with Dementia,” and will touch on new approaches to living with dementia through her experiences with the FVMP.

The day-long event will also feature an address by Monroe Clinic Neurologist Dr. Joshua Morrison and break-out sessions covering topics such as caregiver resources, caregivers sharing experiences and palliative, home and hospice care.

There is a fee; lunch is provided. Register by calling the ADRC at 608-328-9499. Onsite respite care is available at no cost through the Hand in Hand Adult Day Center. Call to make arrangements for respite care by Thursday, Nov. 1.
