MONROE — Abraham Lincoln students and families had the opportunity to listen to two local authors read their very own books and share their reading and writing experiences. Family Reading Night at Abe was held Oct. 11. The event featured local authors Laura Eckroat and Nikki Cooper and families even had the chance to meet Muffin the dog, the main character in Mrs. Eckroat’s books.

The two authors entertained the audience by reading the books they have written and describing their writing experiences. They were joined by Heather Newton, the school district’s Library Media Specialist, who also read campfire stories to families around custom-made campfires.

In addition to enjoying the read-aloud books, students were able to have their picture taken with Lincoln Lion, make a pair of binoculars, and sign-up for a Monroe Public Library card. Each child who attended the event received a free book and treat as well.

The Abraham Lincoln PTO sponsored the event. Andrea Schmitz, Youth Services director at the Monroe Public Library, helped students and their families with library cards. Abe Lincoln staff members helped to make it a fun evening for everyone.
