MADISON - The Wayne D. Horner Memorial Stand Down, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, will host Stand Down Madison from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army of Dane County. The event will support veterans who reside in Dane, Columbia, Dodge, Jefferson, Rock, Green, Iowa and Sauk counties.

Stand Down Madison has helped over 600 veterans experiencing homelessness in the 14 years this event has taken place.

This year, the event expects to serve 130 veterans who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Ninety-six community organizations are registered to provide a variety of services on-site to include: medical, mental health and dental care, clothing, hygiene items, haircuts, disability benefits, VA health care eligibility, employment and job training assistance, housing assistance and women veterans' resources.

During Stand Down, veterans are paired with volunteer buddies who guide them through the many service providers and join them for a meal and conversation.

Transportation to and from the event will be coordinated by RSVP of Dane County.
